Oh, hell

I guess I don't really want to quit after all. Here is some random crap for you:

Lileks says a guy at a protest holding a sign that says “I [Heart] NY / Even More Without The World Trade Center” is a “traitor”. I’ve waited for a long time to find something about which I completely disagree with Lileks, and now I have it. According to Mirriam-Webster, a traitor is one who commits treason. Treason is defined as “the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family”. Key phrase: “attempting by overt acts”. Holding up a sign expressing glee at the destruction of the WTC, and by implication at least some degree of approval of the concomitant deaths, is a disgusting and odious exercise of Constitutionally-protected free speech. It is not an attempt to overthrow the government. Lileks says, “That is a man who celebrates the death of Americans (and others) and supports the people who killed them.” In other words, he’s guilty of a thought crime. Ironic that Lileks then attempts to paint the other side with the Orwell-1984 brush. Let’s not get hysterical, people.

I was in Florida last week, partaking of the wise counsel of Captain Morgan (Standard advice: Have another drink.) when I heard something on TV about Dick Clarke, terrorists, weapons of mass destruction, Clinton, Bush, blah blah blah. I gave the matter a lot of thought before I turned off the TV, freshened my drink (good choice, said the Captain), and took a walk on the beach. I should probably pay attention and form an opinion about this, but not just yet. The world is going to have to struggle along with me being uninformed for a while until my vacation afterglow wears off and I feel more like worrying about death and destruction.

My, that Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish sure is tasty.

Let’s see, I was in Florida last week and Blackfive is there this week. Look for liquor prices to spike everywhere south of the Mason-Dixon Line as suppliers scramble to replenish supplies.

Did O.J. find the real killers while I wasn’t paying attention? Just checking.

The Al Franken liberal radio network starts up soon. Great. Between him and Rush Limbaugh, that should just about put an end to any civil, intelligent discussion and debate in this country. Liberals hate America! Conservatives are idiots! Blather, spin, repeat.

“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than to be selfish and worry about my liver.’” - Jack Handey

Yay! Don't quit! Random crap on an irregular basis beats nothing on a regular basis.

Welcome back!

See, I knew you'd be back. Random crap is good. When it's on a blog. It's not good when it's a kid.

Oh thank god...I can finally take a bite of that ham sandwich! Starving myself for Mr. Green was SO worth it!

Jennifer, Susie, and Beast: Thanks!

Simon: I just couldn't stand to have you proved wrong. Coming back was an act of charity aimed at you and you alone. I hope you're sufficiently appreciative. I'll be sending you my Amazon wish list in a separate email.

Nene: After three weeks, that ham sammich is probably more than a little off. Toss it out, open a bottle of wine, and order pizza instead.

It's the least you could do for me. I'll get you those Amazon things right after I get around to counting all the stuff you sent me. Anyway charity doesn't involve reciprocity. So you lose. Bwuhahahahahaha!

And Brian and I drank our fair share the two weeks prior to your Florida vacation (when we were there).
